documented, putting their newfound skills to use.
Founded in 1914, it was independent, black-owned and home to farms, churches, markets, homes and more. The community thrived for decades, until flooded by Hurricane Floyd in the 90’s. In recent years, Mrs. Ella Moore-Clarke (pictured above) has sought to give back to the same Kinston community that grew her into the

woman she is today, by way of education. While we encourage you to read more on The Clarke and Richardson Scholarship, the interviews conducted by our young creators are under lock and key.
